Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate his Lok Sabha election campaign in Uttar Pradesh, commencing with a rally in Meerut, where the BJP has strategically chosen actor Arun Govil, known for his portrayal of Lord Ram in the iconic TV serial ‘Ramayan’, as its candidate. This move not only highlights the party’s emphasis on cultural icons but also underscores the significance of Meerut as a crucial electoral battleground.

Arun Govil’s portrayal of Lord Ram in Ramanand Sagar’s ‘Ramayan’ catapulted him to national fame, making him a household name across India. Now, as the BJP’s candidate from Meerut, his candidacy is symbolically significant, particularly in the wake of the recent consecration of Lord Ram’s idol at the temple in Ayodhya. Prime Minister Modi’s decision to commence his campaign from Meerut, Govil’s constituency, is seen as a strategic move aimed at capitalizing on the actor’s popularity and the emotional resonance of the Ramayana narrative.

The rally, scheduled for tomorrow, is expected to draw a massive crowd, with not only BJP supporters but also individuals from nearby constituencies like Baghpat, Bijnor, Muzaffarnagar, and Kairana participating in large numbers. Rashtriya Lok Dal president Jayant Chaudhary, who recently aligned with the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance, will also grace the occasion, sharing the stage with the Prime Minister. This collaboration underscores the alliance-building efforts undertaken by the BJP to consolidate its position in Uttar Pradesh.

Speaking about the significance of the rally, senior BJP leader and MLC Govind Narayan Shukla emphasized its potential to serve as a milestone in western Uttar Pradesh. Shukla expressed confidence in the BJP and its allies securing victory across all 80 Lok Sabha seats in the state. The presence of Prime Minister Modi at the rally adds further weight to the event, marking the formal commencement of the election campaign in Uttar Pradesh for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

The responsibility of coordinating the Prime Minister’s rally has been entrusted to the party’s state General Secretary, Anoop Gupta, ensuring meticulous planning and execution of the event. Security measures have been intensified by the local administration, with stringent regulations enforced, including a ban on flying drones, kites, or balloons within an eight-kilometer radius of the rally venue under Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code.

The rally is expected to address a range of issues pertinent to the region, including the legacy of former Prime Minister Chaudhary Charan Singh, the concerns of sugarcane growers and farmers, and the overall development of Western Uttar Pradesh. Notably, Bharat Ratna, the country’s highest civilian award, was posthumously conferred upon Chaudhary Charan Singh, underscoring his enduring legacy and contributions to Indian politics. Jayant Chaudhary, the grandson of the late Prime Minister, received the award on behalf of his family during a ceremony at the Rashtrapati Bhavan in Delhi.

The rally serves as a platform for the BJP and its allies to address the electorate, laying out their vision for the state’s development and articulating their stance on key issues facing the region. The presence of Jayant Chaudhary alongside BJP leaders signifies a collaborative approach towards addressing the concerns of the people and fostering greater unity among political stakeholders.

With Uttar Pradesh slated to vote in all seven phases of the Lok Sabha elections, the rally in Meerut marks the beginning of an intense electoral battle. Polling in constituencies like Bijnor, Muzaffarnagar, and Kairana is scheduled for the first phase on April 19, followed by Meerut and Baghpat in the second phase on April 26. The outcome of these elections will not only shape the political landscape of Uttar Pradesh but also have far-reaching implications for the national political scenario. As Prime Minister Modi takes the stage in Meerut, the rally signifies the commencement of a vigorous electoral campaign, with the BJP and its allies aiming to secure a decisive mandate in the state.
